Dementia awareness, knowledge and stigma in the Asia Pacific

Dementia awareness, knowledge, and attitudes (i.e. dementia literacy) impacts on dementia risk-reduction and help-seeking in the public, care practices of family and professionals and government policy. Increasing dementia literacy and decreasing stigma is a global public health challenge. This symposium features speakers from the Philippines, Malaysia, China and Australia. Presentations will describe dementia awareness and knowledge, and strategies to improve dementia literacy in family carers and the public. The interaction between dementia awareness and government policy will also be highlighted. Attendees will gain understanding of misbeliefs around dementia and ideas for improving dementia literacy.
